Florence Y'alls News Release

MARION, Ill. - On a sacrifice fly from designated hitter Jose Brizuela in the top of the ninth inning, the Florence Y'alls won yet another game over the Southern Illinois Miners on Wednesday night at Rent One Park.

In the win, Florence scored in the first inning for the sixth game in a row, all since Brizuela was moved up to the leadoff spot by manager Brian White. This time, it was a two-run home run from shortstop Luis Pintor, scoring Brizuela after his leadoff walk.

Florence starter Jared Cheek posted a season-high 7.1 innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out four in a no-decision. Karl Craigie earned the win in relief, helped by phenomenal defensive plays by second baseman Andres Rios and first baseman Jordan Brower.

The Y'alls also got RBIs from third baseman Chad Sedio and right fielder Harrison DiNicola. Catcher Trevor Craport added three hits, increasing his batting average to .331 on the season.

The Y'alls never trailed in the ball game despite getting out-hit by the Miners. Wednesday's victory marks the team's 10th over Southern Illinois in 2021 and clinched its fourth series victory over the West Division foe.

With the win and Evansville's win over Joliet, Florence remains .5 games back in the Frontier League West Division with four games to play. The Y'alls concludes the 10-game road trip with the Southern Illinois Miners on Thursday night at 7:05 CT in Marion, Illinois.
