Lake Erie swept by Boomers in 5-1 loss

AVON, Ohio - The Lake Erie Crushers played their final home game of the season on Thursday night at Mercy Health Stadium, and they fell to the Schaumburg Boomers, 5-1.

The loss for the Crushers (40-53) gives them a final home record of 20-31, while the victory for the Boomers (50-43) finishes a three game sweep of the Crushers and gives them a record of 9-3 against Lake Erie this season.

Before the game, it was announced that Lake Erie manager Dan Rohn and Pitching Coach Greg Cadaret are retiring at the end of the season.

Schaumburg struck first on back-to-back hits with two outs in top of the first inning. Chase Dawson reached on a single and came around to score on Braxton Davidson's RBI double.

The Boomers scored three times in the top of the fourth inning to pull away. Quincy Nieporte walked with one out and Angelo Gumbs belted a two out double. Matt Bottcher singled into left field to score them both and Matt McGarry was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score the last run of the inning.

Lake Erie plated their only run in the bottom of the fourth. Zach Racusin doubled to start the inning and Trevor Achenbach followed with a single. Steve Passatempo then reached on a fielder's choice which allowed Racusin to score.

Davidson struck again for Schaumburg in the top of the seventh. He belted a solo homer, his 20th of the season to give the Boomers a 5-1 lead.

Andrew Dean (5-10) picked up the win for Schaumburg, allowing just a run on five hits while striking out five over six innings. Jake Pilarski (3-4) allowed four runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings and took the loss.

Racusin led the way for Lake Erie offensively, going 2-for-3 and reached three times on the night.

The Crushers will begin their final three game series of the season on the road against Evansville Otters on Friday night. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:35 PM.
