Austin, TX - The Utah Flash's first trip to Austin this season was a success with the Flash beating the Toros at the Austin Convention Center, 120-115.
The Austin Toros jumped ahead early in the first quarter behind the hot hands of Eric Dawson and Marcus Williams, who had 19 of the Toros 29 points. Utah's Andrew Ingram had eight points in the quarter, including a base line jumper at the buzzer. His buzzer beater put Utah within three points of the Toros, 29-26.
Utah tied the game half way through the second quarter at 40. After Bennett Davis' jumper Utah regained the lead, 46-45, which they had not seen since the score was 16-15. At the break, the Toros led 56-53. Toros center Eric Dawson led the team with 13 points before getting injured with two minutes remaining in the first half. The Toros had four players in double figures at intermission.
Brian Hamilton jump started a 10-4 run at the start of third that gave the Flash the lead. The teams exchanged baskets before Utah began to pull away at the end of the quarter, where they lead 82-76. Utah visited the charity stripe 12 times and made 10 free throws in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter Utah's lead grew to as many as seven, but Curtis Jerrells' long jumper put the Toros within two-points, 102-100, with 5:50 left in the game. Marcus Williams' slam dunk sparked a Toros run that eventually gave them the lead back at 108-107 after his reverse layup with 2:59 remaining. Orien Greene's long-shot secured the win for the Flash. Kevin Kruger, Bennet Davis, and Green had a combined 26 points in the fourth quarter.
Utah had seven players score in double-figures including all five starters: Kevin Kruger (22), Greene (21), Ingram (18), Davis (17), Brian Hamilton (13), and Luke Nevill (10).
Austin had five players score in double-figures: Williams (28), Jerrells (27), Eddie Basden (18), Dawson (13), and Squeaky Johnson (10).
adidas player of the game Williams and Jerrells both added seven assists on the night.
The Toros (31-18) will host the Flash (28-21) tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. CST in their final regular season game.
