
Five Shorebirds Fly to South Atlantic League All-Star Game

Salisbury, MD - John H. Moss, President of the South Atlantic League announced the teams for the 47th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game to be played on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio. "The teams representing the Northern and Southern Divisions in the 2006 South Atlantic League All-Star Game are full of great, young talent some of whom are destined to become future Major League Players and who will surely provide for a very exciting game at Classic Park in Eastlake," Moss said.
The Northern Division club will serve as the host team and will be managed by Jack Lind, Field Manager of the Lexington Legends who has led his club to its current standing atop the South Atlantic League Northern Division. Jack Lind will be assisted in his role as Manager by four Coaches: Lee May Jr., Manager of the Lake County Captains, Greg Briley of the Hickory Crawdads, Mike Lum of the West Virginia Power and Keenie Steenstra of Your Delmarva Shorebirds.
Lexington placed the most players on the Northern Division squad with five representing the Legends including: Scheduled Starting Pitcher Tip Fairchild, Catcher J.R. Towles, Utility Infielder Tommy Manzella and Designated Hitter Ole Sheldon. YOUR DELMARVA SHOREBIRDS have four players on the team, including: RHP BRANDON ERBE, who has a record of 3-3 with a 2.25 ERA, RHP JIM HOEY, who is 2-1 with a 2.96 ERA, RHP CHORYE SPOONE, who is 5-1 with a 1.80 ERA and Outfielder QUINCY ASCENCION who is batting .296 with 20 RBIs. The Hickory Crawdads are also sending four players to the All-Star Game. The Lake County Captains and the West Virginia Power each have three players. The Greensboro Grasshoppers, the Lakewood BlueClaws and the Hagerstown Suns are each represented by two players. The Northern Division team consists of 25 players total with a representative from each Northern Division team.
The Southern Division club will be led by Randy Ingle, the Field Manager of the Rome Braves who has guided his club to their current lead in the First Half South Atlantic League's Southern Division. Assisting Ingle are Coaches Travis Barbary of the Columbus Catfish, Jim Czajkowski and Bobby Moore of the Rome Braves.
The Rome Braves and the Ashville Tourist, both placed five players on the Southern Division All-Star Roster. The Braves players are: Starting Pitcher Jo Jo Reyes, Pitcher Chris Vines, Catcher Max Ramirez, First Baseman Isaiah Ka'aihue and Third Baseman Eric Campbell. The Ashville Players on the Southern Division team are Pitchers, David Patton and Brandon Durden, Second Baseman Eric Young, Shortstop Chris Nelson, Center Fielder Dexter Fowler. The Southern Division team consists of 25 players total with a representative from each of Southern Division teams.
