GreenJackets sting Braves in game two

Rome, GA -The Augusta GreenJackets defeated the Rome Braves tonight 7-3 at State Mutual Stadium in game two of a five game series before 3,287 fans.

The Braves got off to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when Ovandy Suero singled, stole second, then scored on an Isaiah Ka'aihue single to give Rome a 1-0 lead. The GreenJackes answered the Braves in the top of the second at took the lead with two runs of their own. David Maroul doubled to center field then crossed the plate when Jose Yens blasted the second double of the inning. Barry Gunther then singled up the middle sending Yens home to give the GreenJackets a 2-1 lead. Augusta scored again in the top of the third. Antoan Richardson singled, stole second, advanced to third on a Ben Copeland groundout, and scored when Anthony Contreras singled to second, putting the GreenJackets up by two. In the top of the fourth, Augusta added another run when David Maroul sent the ball sailing over the left field fence to give Augusta a 4-2 advantage. The Braves cut the GreenJacket lead in half in the bottom of the fourth when Isaiah Ka'aihue smacked a homer to right, his 14th of the season. In the fifth, the Braves came to within one run after Ovandy Suero scored when Elvis Andrus reached first on a throwing error. In the seventh, the GreenJackets added three additional runs off Rome reliever Tyler Bullock to win the game going away 7-3.

The winning pitcher for the GreenJackets was Jopeph Martinez (5-2) who allowed eight hits in seven innings. Braves pitcher Beau Jones (1-2) got the loss after giving up eight hits and four runs in six innings.

Atlanta Brave and former Rome Brave, Brian McCann played in his first rehab assignment game tonight. He had one solid hit in four at bats as a designated hitter.
