
Five-run seventh wins it for Lexington

Lexington, KY (JUNE 24, 2005) - The West Virginia Power took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning of Friday night's game against the Lexington Legends at Applebee's Park. The Legends scored five times in the inning and beat the Power by the final score of 8-4.
Grant Richardson started the scoring for the Power in the top of the second inning when he hit a solo shot, his fifth homerun of the year to give the Power a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning Josh Brady drove in Carlos Corporan on a Sac Fly RBI. Will Lewis knocked in the next run for the Power on an RBI double in the top of the fifth inning to give the Power a 3-0 advantage. The Legends scored three times in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game. Bryan Triplett knocked in the first run on an RBI groundout, Ben Zobrist drove in the second run on an RBI single and Luke Barganier tied the game with a Sac Fly RBI. In the top of the seventh inning Grant Richardson gave the Power the lead on a clutch, two out, RBI single to make it 4-3 Power. In the bottom of the seventh Lexington sent nine batters to the plate and scored five times to take the lead. Luke Barganier singled in the first two runs of the inning. During the play, Kevin Vital plowed over Carlos Corporan at home plate to score the first run on the single, and Ole Sheldon scored after the ball popped out of Corporan's glove. Francisco Caraballo's RBI single scored the third run of the inning and Chris Clark hit a two run homerun later in the inning to cap off the five run rally for Lexington.
Andrew Alvarado (1-0) earned the victory and Brian Montalbo (1-3) obtained the loss. The Power fall to 1-3 in the second half with the loss and the Legends improve to 3-1 with the win.
The Power will begin a weekend series with the Lake County Captains on Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park. Left-handed pitcher Greg Kloosterman (3-10, 4.23) will throw for the Power and the Captains will counter with right-handed pitcher Cody Bunkleman (0-2, 7.50). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
