Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
CHARLESTON, WV (June 24, 2005) - The West Virginia Power, Class A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers have announced that short stop Alcides Escobar has been named to the Northern Division All Star team.
Escobar was added to the roster today to take the place of utility infielder Argenis Reyes of the Lake County Captains who was promoted earlier this afternoon. Escobar has made a name for himself at the top of the order, reaching base and setting the table for the rest of the offense. He is also regarded as one of the best defensive shortstops in the league and one of the most exciting players to watch.
Escobar is hitting .290 on the season with 6 triples, 18 stolen bases and 46 runs scored. Escobar joins second baseman Hernan Iribarren and right-handed pitcher Robert Hinton who will also represent the Power in the 46th Annual South Atlantic League All Star Game.
The All Star Game will take place on Tuesday, June 28th at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, Georgia. Audio for the game is available at www.milb.com.
The Power will finish their series against the Lexington Legends at Applebee's Park tonight. Right-handed pitcher Mark Rogers (0-5, 4.50) will throw for the Power and Lexington will counter with right-handed pitcher Jimmy Barthmaier (6-2, 1.98).
