Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - The Rome Braves dropped game one of a three game series with the Columbus Catfish 9-2 Friday evening before a crowd of 3,920 fans at State Mutual Stadium. On a night where Columbus had more hits than they did runs, it was timely two-out hitting and walks that helped lead the Catfish to the victory. Eight of the nine runs scored by the Catfish came with two-outs.
Columbus jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Lucas May RBI groundout. In the top half of the fourth, five runs crossed the plate for the Catfish, with all of them coming with two outs. Ryan Russ's double down the left-field line scoring two runs highlighted the inning. Another three run spot on the board in the fifth inning for Columbus would increase their lead to 9-0. Columbus's Dan Batz two-RBI double to dead centerfield was the big blow to the Braves in the inning. Rome eventually got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth when Ivan Terrazas singled to right-field scoring Mike Rozema. They would add another run the next inning when Rome newcomer Bo Brown roped a double to the left-field power alley scoring JC Holt for the Braves only other run of the game.
Jonathan Venters (5-3) took the loss for Rome while Zach Hammes (2-3) picked up the win for Columbus. Tomorrow evening the same two teams will play game two of the series with the first pitch set for 7 o clock at State Mutual Stadium. Call the Braves ticket hotline at 378-5144 for ticket information.
