Greenville Drive News Release
The Boston Red Sox announced on Friday that pitcher Beau Vaughan has been assigned to the Greenville Bombers.
Vaughan was drafted by the Red Sox in the third round of the 2003 June Major League Baseball draft out of Arizona State University. The 24-year old righthander joins the team out of the Boston's extended spring training facilities in Ft. Myers, Florida.
Vaughan pitched in the South Atlantic League last season with Augusta, compiling a 7-3 record with a 3.30 ERA in 14 appearances for the GreenJackets. The Glendale, Arizona native threw 71 innings, striking out 73 while walking only 27 in his second professional season.
The Bombers return home on Friday night against the Savannah Sand Gnats (Washington Nationals) for a three-game set before the all-star break begins on Monday. Highlights of the Bombers' upcoming home stand include Pennant Giveaway Night on Friday night for the first 1,000 children in attendance. On Saturday the team will give away window decals to the first 1,000 fans in attendance. On Sunday the team will play at 2:05 p.m. and feature "Kids Eat Free" (with the purchase of a general admission ticket) and "Kids Run the Bases".
