
Fitzsimmons Named As 2010 Stingrays Hall Of Fame Inductee

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that the team will be inducting former goaltender and head coach Jason Fitzsimmons into Stingrays Hall of Fame on Friday, March 26 at North Charleston Coliseum during the first intermission of the Stingrays game against the Reading Royals at 7:05 p.m as a part of The Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night.
Fitzsimmons joined the Stingrays family in 1994 and was a member of the 1997 and 2001 Kelly Cup championship teams. An 11 round draft pick (#227 overall) by the Vancouver Canucks in 1991, Fitzsimmons went 42-16-7 over three seasons with the Stingrays and had a career-best 2.97 goals-against average in 1994-1995. In 1997, the Regina, SK native went 8-1-1, appeared in 17 post-season contests and was named the Playoff MVP in route to the Stingrays' first ECHL title. Fitzsimmons moved into coaching in 1998 serving as the Stingrays' assistant coach until 2002, when he was named the team's third head coach in club history. Over the next five seasons, the Stingrays went 188-126-46 while under Fitzsimmons. He currently serves as a scout for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League.
Fitzsimmons joins Jerry Zucker, Brett Marietti, Dave Seitz, Ed Courtenay, Kirk Daubenspeck, Rob Concan-non, Rick Vaive, Mark Bavis and Brad Dexter in Stingrays Hockey Hall of Fame.
The Stingrays return to action on Friday, March 26 against the Reading Royals at 7:05 p.m. at North Charleston Coliseum for The Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night and Fan Appreciation Night.
