Aces Now Unbeaten In Nine

ONTARIO, Calif. - Curtis Fraser scored twice as Alaska rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to stretch its unbeaten streak to nine games with a 6-3 win over Ontario before 7,268 Wednesday at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

The Aces (32-26-8 overall) have taken seven of eight points thus far on their six-game road trip, which concludes with two more clashes with the Reign Friday at 6:30 p.m. AT and Saturday at 6:00 p.m. AT. Both games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, and by winning both, Alaska (currently the third seed but only four points ahead of Ontario, the last-place team) officially would clinch a spot in the National Conference playoffs. The Aces have gone 6-0-3 in their nine March games since being swept in Boise at the end of February.

For the first time in six games, Alaska did not score first, as Geoff Walker scored on a power play at 7:31 of the first period and David Walker followed at even strength with a blast from the point less than four minutes later to give the hosts a 2-0 lead. The Aces stormed back to deadlock the contest before intermission, as Fraser scored his first at 14:25 and Tyson Marsh registered his career-high sixth goal of the season (in only 25 games) on a power play 1:44 before the break.

A scoreless second period followed, and after a slow start to the third, Alaska erupted for three goals in barely five minutes to break open the game. Rookie Garry Nunn, playing just his fourth professional game, forced a turnover and picked up his first assist by finding Jason Ryznar in the slot for the go-ahead goal at 9:05. Less than three minutes later, Nunn went coast-to-coast with a steal to score his first goal and give the Aces a 4-2 cushion. With the Reign on a power play, goalie Curtis Darling saw his outlet pass intercepted by Fraser, who deposited the puck into an empty net with 5:32 left in regulation for a 5-2 bulge.

Sean O'Connor answered for Ontario 32 seconds later, but the hosts would draw no closer, and Nick Mazzolini's empty-netter with Alaska on another power play accounted for the final margin with 69 seconds left in regulation. The Aces managed just 22 shots on goal but scored four times on seven shots in the final period. Scott Reid improved his record to 9-3-4 over his last 16 starts with 26 saves between the pipes.
