Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Staring at a possible five-game losing streak, the Winnipeg Goldeyes fought back in a big way.

The Goldeyes (42-27) scored seven runs in the top of the ninth inning Tuesday to defeat the Sioux City Explorers (33-36) 11-6 before 946 fans at Lewis and Clark Park.

Winnipeg opened the scoring in the first inning when Kody Kaiser scored on an error.

After Sioux City went up 2-1 in the second inning, the Goldeyes regained the one-run lead in the third frame with a solo home run from Wes Long and an RBI single from Jon Weber. The Fish added on with an RBI single from Price Kendall in the fourth inning.

The Explorers tallied twice in each of the fifth and sixth innings to grab a 6-4 lead and appeared to be heading for their second consecutive win against Winnipeg until the top of the ninth.

In the top of the final inning, Winnipeg sent 12 men to the plate and scored seven times. Long had a two-run double to tie the game, which was followed two batters later by a two-RBI triple from Weber to give Winnipeg the lead. Luis Alen drove in Weber with a double and Price Kendall smacked a two-run double of his own for the final runs of the game.

Goldeyes starter Ace Walker went seven innings, allowing six runs and getting stuck with a no decision. His quest for a team record 37 career runs will continue next week against the Gary SouthShore RailCats.

Jon Plefka gets his first win in a Goldeyes uniform after he pitched the eighth inning. Eddie Delacruz takes the blown save and loss for the Explorers.

Winnipeg remains two games up on the St. Paul Saints for first in the North Division.

The final game of this three-game series and six game road trip for Winnipeg goes Wednesday night in Sioux City at 7:05 p.m. All the action can be heard with Paul Edmonds on Sports Radio 1290, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m.
