Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City-----The Explorers defeated Winnipeg 6-2 at Lewis and Clark Park on Monday sending the Goldeyes down to their fourth straight loss.

After Winnipeg had taken a 2-0 lead in the third inning, the Explorers tied the game in the bottom of the third at 2-2 on RBI's by Wally Backman, Jr. and Derek Schermerhorn. The Explorers broke the tie in the sixth inning with a two-out rally started by a double by Ray Serrano. After T.J. Bohn was intentionally walked, Brett Flowers doubled to left field that scored two runs and gave the Explorers a 4-2 lead. Then Ryan Priddy doubled Flowers home to make it a 5-2 lead for the X's. The Explorers added their final run in the seventh inning on an opposite field home run to left center by Backman, his sixth home run of the season. That would be all the Explorers would need in winning for the third time in the last four games.

Ty Marotz picked up the win and Eddie Delacruz pitched the final two and two third innings to record his seventh save of the year. The Explorers and Winnipeg will meet in the second game of the three-game series Tuesday at Lewis and Clark Park with game time set for 7:05.
