'Dogs Pounce Early, Coast to Victory

LINCOLN - Phil Hawke and Pat Trettel hit back-to-back opposite field home runs in the five-run second as the Saltdogs cruised to a 7-1 victory over the El Paso Diablos in front of 3,352 fans at Haymarket Park Tuesday night.

Blake Gailen stroked a two-run triple to right center two batters before the home runs in the bottom of the second.

John James (7-5) pitched six innings, allowing one run on six hits to earn the victory. Jordan Stern tossed three innings of one-hit ball to finish the game and book his first professional save.

Colin Allen (1-7) allowed six runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings to suffer the loss.

For the second time this home stand, the Saltdogs launched consecutive opposite-field homers. Gavin Dickey and Hawke accomplished the feat in the 10th inning Saturday night.

Jorge Cortes went 2-for-5 with an RBI double. Joe Ramos had three hits and a stolen base.

The Saltdogs go for their first series sweep of the season Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Jino Gonzalez (1-0, 0.87) will take the bump for Lincoln. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
