Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

GARY, Ind. - One night after the Sioux Falls Pheasants stopped the Gary SouthShore RailCats best winning streak of the season, the RailCats returned the deed. The Pheasants' five-game winning streak ended on Tuesday night with a 9-1 loss to Gary SouthShore, who evened a three-game series at one apiece.

The Pheasants were shut out through the first eight innings. RailCats starter Carlos Rivas (5-0) limited the Pheasants to four hits through seven scoreless frames. He walked only one and struck out six Pheasants batters.

Sioux Falls' three defensive errors cost them five unearned runs, including the RailCats' first run in the third inning. Kevin Carby could not handle a bouncer from Adam Klein that would have been the third out, and Mike Rohde scored to break a scoreless tie.

Cristian Guerrero led off the fourth inning with solo home run that started a five-run rally for Gary SouthShore. A second fielding error extended the inning, and Brian Kolb capped off the frame with a two-run single.

The RailCats added three runs in the eighth before the Pheasants scored a run on Francisco Leandro's single in the ninth inning to break up a shutout bid.

Adam Cowart (5-5) suffered the loss for the Pheasants. He allowed five hits and six runs, three earned, in five innings.

The Pheasants' loss dropped them to 32-37 on the year. They trail the St. Paul Saints by eight games in the wild card race.

The Pheasants conclude the three-game series against Gary SouthShore at 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27. The game will be broadcast live on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and www.kwsn.com.
