Sox Split Double Dip

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox started off Tuesday's doubleheader with a 7-6 win, but lost game two 17-13 to the Fort Worth Cats in front of 2,042 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.

Sox starter Corey Bass (4-2) got the win in game one, allowing all six runs in five and one-third innings. Sox reliever Pat Overholt (1-3) got the loss in game two, allowing only one run off one hit in two-thirds of an inning. Josh Banda starred in game one with a 3-3 game with two homeruns and four RBI, while Fehlandt Lentini went 4-4 with five driven in for game two.

In game one, Cyle Hankerd led things off with a two-run first inning homerun, while Banda followed with a three-run blast later in the inning for a five-run lead. The Cats got their first run in the second on a Cory Morales RBI double, but the Sox responded with an RBI single by Hankerd in the second for a 6-1 advantage.

Fort Worth's Brian Fryer hit a solo homerun to leadoff the third, while Trent Lockwood added an RBI triple for a three-run Amarillo advantage. Banda hit another towering homerun in the bottom of the third for a 7-3 Amarillolead.

The Cats added a run on a Fryer RBI single in the fourth and added two in the sixth to pull the score within one. Evans came in for the ninth, allowed a single, but struck out Lockwood to end the game with the Sox victorious at 7-6

In game two, Fort Worth took an early lead on a first inning three-run homerun by Kelley Gulledge. Amarillo struck back in the first as Lentini doubled, took third on a flyout and scored on a Lee Cruz RBI triple for a 3-1 Sox deficit.

Lentini singled with Alex Chavez and Kevin Butler on base to tie the game in the second, while the Cats retook the lead on a bases loaded two-RBI single from John Allen for a 5-3 Fort Worth advantage.

Van Pope tied the game in the third with a two-run homerun, but an RBI single by Marcos Rodriguez in the fourth inning gave Fort Worth another one-run lead. In the fourth, Lentini hit a two-RBI triple and scored on an Adam De La Garza sacrifice fly for an 8-6 Sox lead.

The Cats took the lead again with a four-run fifth inning and added five more in the sixth to take the lead for good. Amarillo added two sixth inning runs, but Fort Worth added two in the seventh. The Sox added three in the seventh, but lost game two by the score of 17-13.

With the win and loss, the Sox go to 33-36 while the Cats go to 31-37. Wednesday, Amarillo will take on Fort Worth for the final game of a three-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm.
