Amarillo 7, Fort Worth 6 (Game 1 - 7 innings)
A five-run first inning powered Amarillo to a 7-6 win over Fort Worth on Tuesday. All five runs in that opening frame came on home runs, the first two via 1B Cyle Hankerd, the final three off the bat of C Josh Banda. Banda also launched his second home run of the game in the third inning and finished the game a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBIs. The Cats made a game of it, pulling within one run after six innings. But the visitors never quite overcame the once demanding Amarillo lead. Fort Worth leadoff CF Brian Fryer went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI, including a third inning-opening solo home run.
Fort Worth 13, Amarillo 8 (Game 2 - In progress - Top 6)
Fort Worth leads Amarillo by a score of 13-8 in Game 2 of their doubleheader. The contest is in the top of the sixth inning.
Gary SouthShore 9, Sioux Falls 1
RailCats starting pitcher Carlos Rivas threw seven shutout innings while his offense racked up an impressive lead, resulting in a 9-1 win versus Sioux Falls. Rivas struck out six batters over seven shutout innings while allowing four hits. The Gary SouthShore bats registered 14 hits, three of which came from the batt of DH Mike Massaro, who also drove in a run. Sioux Falls' only score came in the ninth inning off RailCats reliever Will Krout when Francisco Leandro singled in Mark Shorey from third. RailCats DH Mike Massaro led all batters with three hits in five at-bats with an RBI.
Winnipeg 11, Sioux City 6
The Goldeyes entered the top of the ninth inning trailing the Explorers, 6-4. That changed - quickly and drastically - and Winnipeg exited the frame with a five-run lead that held for an 11-6 win. Six of Winnipeg's seven ninth-inning runs came via two-run extra-base hits - one a two-score triple by LF Jon Weber, who ended the game 4-for-5 with a run and three RBI. The game went back and forth in the early innings with Sioux City holding a two-run lead for two innings before Winnipeg's monstrous ninth.
Wichita 12, Fargo-Moorhead 1
The Wingnuts got a big night at the plate from SS Josh Horn, who went 3-for-3 with a solo homer powering his four-run, three-RBI performance. His solo shot, a sixth-inning blast, was followed by another yard shot from CF Brent Clevlen. It was Clevlen's only hit of the night. The RedHawks picked up a run in the ninth to prevent being shutout when 1B C.J. Retherford doubled in 1B Kyle Nichols. Starting Wichita pitcher Ryan Hinson went seven innings and had equal number of strikeouts and hits allowed (3) en route to his eighth win of the season.
Lincoln 7, El Paso 1
Saltdogs 1B Phil Hawke and C Pat Trettel capped off a five-run Lincoln second inning with back-to-back jacks, putting their club on top, 6-0. They were the only hits of the night for Hawke and Trettel, who now have 14 and three home runs on the year, respectively. Starting Lincoln pitcher John James earned the win, allowing one run on six hits in six innings with two strikeouts. El Paso RF Nelson Teilon went 2-for-4 for the Diablos and batted in their only run of the game. Teilon singled in 3B Johan Garcia in the fifth to make the score Lincoln 6, El Paso 1.
Shreveport-Bossier 5, Grand Prairie 4
After falling behind, 1-0, the Captains put five unanswered runs on the board and held on to take a narrow, 5-4 victory. Shreveport-Bossier 1B Uriak Marquez went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. The Captains got a team effort out of the pitching staff, with five different hurlers toeing the rubber on Tuesday. Reliever Jameson Maj pulled his season record to 3-3 after throwing perfect seventh and eighth innings while striking out two to take the win for the Captains. Three of the AirHogs' four runs came off the bat of RF Tyler Henley, who went 2-for-3 on the night.
St. Paul 6, Kansas City 5
Trailing by two entering the bottom of the ninth, St. Paul needed something big. They got just that. With two outs and the bases - the score already having been tied by a bases-loaded walk - Saints DH Ole Sheldon got his only hit of the game, singling in CF Jonathan Van Every to send the home fans out of the park happy. Both the Saints and T-Bones picked up 11 hits Tuesday, and St. Paul stranded seven more batters than Kansas City. But the big ninth erased that disadvantage to give St. Paul the victory, which belongs to reliever Kyle Foster. Foster threw a perfect ninth, striking out two.
