Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

SHREVEPORT, La.---Shreveport-Bossier saw their four-run lead get cut to one late in the game but held on to beat the Grand Prairie AirHogs 5-4 Tuesday night at Fair Grounds Field for the Captains' fourth win in five games. Reliver Jameson Maj (3-3), tossed two scoreless innings to win for the third time in his last three appearances.

Robert Perry went 2-for-5 with two runs batted in and Uriak Marquez, playing for the first time in three games, launched a solo home run to left for his ninth of the year.

Grand Prairie took a brief lead in the top of the second when first baseman John Alonso scored on a bases loaded single by right fielder Tyler Henley. However, with the bases still full and one out, Captains starter Osvaldo Rodriguez got David Thomas to fly out to shallow left and Bryan Fricther to ground out to end the threat. Rodriguez, who went four innings and allowed one run and one hit, set a season-high by walking six batters. Captains pitchers walked ten AirHogs hitters total.

Shreveport-Bossier would take the lead in the last of the second on an Alex Cowart RBI single which scored Brian Peterson and a two-run single by Perry, scoring Cowart and Marquez. Marquez's solo shot off Grand Prairie starter Lance Janke (2-2) with two out in the fourth made it 4-1.

After designated hitter Cesar Nicolas hit into a bases loaded double play to end the top of the fifth, Grand Prairie finally broke through again in the sixth. John Alonso was walked by Captains reliever Jose Velazquez to start the inning. Then with two out, Guillermo Martinez doubled. Henley would plate both runners with an RBI single. In the seventh, an Alonso sacrifice fly made it 5-4, but that was all Grand Prarie would get.

Maj retired all six batters he faced. He has now allowed just one earned run in his last nine innings pitched. In the ninth, Mark Haynes (Sv, 4) pitched a 1-2-3 inning, getting second baseman David Espinosa to fly out for the game's final play.

Marquez (2-for-4, home run, two runs) and Perry were the only Captains with multiple hits. Shortstop John Johnson, hitting in the leadoff spot for the first time, was 1-for-3 with two walks in his first game at Fair Grounds Field. Marquez played his first game at firse base this year.
