Fish Score Early, Often in Rout of Saltdogs

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- The Winnipeg Goldeyes scored quickly and furiously as they went on to blowout the Saltdogs 11-2 in front of 5,826 fans at Shaw Park Saturday night.

Winnipeg scored two runs in the first inning, and tallied three in each of the next four innings to open up an 11-0 lead over Lincoln.

Wes Long launched a three-run homer down the left field line in the second inning, his first of the season.

The Saltdogs were able to avoid the shutout by scoring twice in the ninth, on RBI doubles from Phil Hawke and Pat Trettel.

Ace Walker (3-3) pitched 8 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits to earn the victory. Jordan Stern (0-1) went four frames, allowing seven earned on nine hits while walking five to suffer the loss in his first professional start.

Trettel finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Blake Gailen went 2-for-4 with two doubles as well and Maikel Jova also booked a two-hit night.

The teams meet Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. for the finale of the three-game series as the Saltdogs will look to avoid the sweep. John James (5-0, 5.05) takes the mound against Chris Salamida (3-1, 3.86). Radio coverage begins at 1:05 p.m. on KFOR 1240.

The Saltdogs return home to Haymarket Park Monday night to host the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
