
Sioux Falls Sidesteps RailCats

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats suffered their second consecutive setback on the road, falling to the Sioux Falls Pheasants 6-2 on Saturday night.
Sioux Falls plated a run in the first to open a 1-0 lead. Joe Anthonsen walked to open the game, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a single from Trevor Lawhorn, and scored on a fielder's choice. The RailCats rebounded to take the lead in the fourth, scoring twice against Sioux Falls starter Barry Fowler, who pitched twice against the RailCats with Winnipeg earlier this season. Brad Boyer opened the inning with a double and Cristian Guerrero followed by reaching on an error. Toddric Johnson dropped a basehit into right to tie the game and Mike Rohde put the RailCats ahead with an RBI groundout.
The Pheasants responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs against Nolan Nicholson on one swing to retake the lead at 4-2. Hunter Jobes connected on a three-run homer, his first of the year, with two outs to account for the scoring. Nicholson allowed another run in the fifth as the Pheasants posted a pair of doubles in the inning. Nicholson did not make it through the fifth, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing five runs on six hits to go with a pair of walks and two strikeouts. Sioux Falls padded the lead with a run in the bottom of the eighth to account for the final tally.
Jeremy Hauer tossed 1.2 scoreless frames in the contest. Johnson and Carrara posted two hits apiece in the game.
The series will conclude with a day game tomorrow at 2:05 p.m. LHP Alain Quijano (2-2, 6.46) makes his third start with the RailCats against RHP Kyle Ruwe (1-2, 7.04) .
The RailCats return to U. S. Steel Yard on Saturday, June 2 for a 6:10 p.m. contest with Sioux Falls on Steel Day. The first 1,000 kids entering the U. S.
