Fans Gain New Real-Time Access To All 34 Mercury Games In 2009
June 5, 2009 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Phoenix Mercury News Release
PHOENIX - Phoenix Mercury fans will now be able to view live game Webcasts via WNBA LiveAccess, a new feature on phoenixmercury.com that will provide fans with free access throughout the 2009 WNBA season. This technology will give fans all around the globe the opportunity to watch Phoenix Mercury games on both phoenixmercury.com and WNBA.com.
Overall, 24 Mercury games will be Webcast in 2009 - 14 home and 10 road games. These 24 games will be accessible through a media player on phoenixmercury.com that will be presented by LifeLock, the Mercury's presenting sponsor. On top of the 24 games available via WNBA LiveAccess, the Mercury's three nationally-televised games on ESPN2 will be Webcast live on ESPN360.com. Through the combination of WNBA LiveAccess and ESPN360.com, 27 games on the Phoenix schedule will be available live over the Web.
"We are constantly looking for new ways to enhance our fans' experience, and this is one more way of adding value for Mercury supporters everywhere," said Mercury President and COO Jay Parry. "We're excited about the opportunity to make our games available to a wider audience this season."
The use of WNBA LiveAccess will complement the Mercury's telecast coverage, which includes five appearances on FOX Sports Arizona, nine games on NBA TV as well as the three contests showcased on ESPN2. Through the Mercury's telecast and WNBA LiveAccess coverage, fans will be able to watch all 34 games in 2009.
WNBA LiveAccess utilizes a portable live production and virtual set system, called TriCaster, to stream select games from WNBA arenas to a worldwide audience. The TriCaster technology used to create the live webcasts has already been proven in the NBA Development League over the last two seasons, and provides a quality viewing experience by using existing cameras in each arena.
