
2009 Monarchs Roster Includes Four All-Stars and Seven Players From the WNBA 2005 Championship Team

SACRAMENTO, CALIF., June 5, 2009 - The Sacramento Monarchs return four WNBA All-Stars (Rebekkah Brunson, Kara Lawson, Ticha Penicheiro and DeMya Walker), seven players from the 2005 WNBA Championship team (Brunson, Lawson, Hamchétou Maïga-Ba, Chelsea Newton, Penicheiro, Nicole Powell and Walker) and three additional veterans (Laura Harper, Crystal Kelly and Scholanda Robinson) to the team's 2009, 11-woman roster.
New additions to this year's team include former Monarchs player Maïga-Ba (2002-05), who signed with the now-defunct Houston Comets for two seasons (2007-08) before Sacramento re-acquired her through free agency this past offseason, and the Monarchs 2009 WNBA first round draft pick (seventh overall) Courtney Paris.
The Monarchs open their 13th WNBA season at ARCO Arena as they take on Seattle Storm on Saturday, June 6, at 1 p.m., PDT. All fans in attendance will receive a commemorative Opening Day pin and Thunderstix. Fans who attend the Monarchs Home Opener will gain exclusive access to a meet and greet and question-and-answer session with UFC legend and former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell following the game.
