October 10, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

FRESNO, Calif. – As they prepare for their first pre-season game tonight at 7 p.m. against the Long Beach Ice Dogs at Gateway Ice Center, the Fresno Falcons have signed centerman Michael Kiesman, right winger Brad Mehalko and left winger John Wroblewski to contracts for the upcoming 2003-04 ECHL season. The signings bring the number of players on the club's pre-season roster to 26.

Kiesman joins the Falcons after playing the majority of last season with the Baton Rouge Kingfish in the ECHL. Entering his fifth year as a pro following a junior career in the Western Hockey League, he has made stops in eight different cities in three different leagues, including a combined total of 46 games with the Michigan K-Wings and Detroit Vipers of the International Hockey League.

Mehalko, a 7th Round draft pick of the San Jose Sharks in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, was one of five Falcons to participate in the training camp of the team's AHL-affiliate Cleveland Barons this fall. Formerly a member of the West Coast Hockey League's Tacoma Sabercats where he recorded 36 points (14g-22a) in 49 games during the 1998-99 season, Mehalko has since embarked on a well-traveled career that includes time in the IHL, AHL, ECHL and in Germany, as well as parts of two seasons with the Canadian National Team.

Wroblewski also attended camp in Cleveland and will begin his rookie season as a Falcon. He played the past four years at the University of Notre Dame following a stint on the U.S. Junior National Team.

Tickets for tonight's 7 p.m. tilt with the Ice Dogs at Gateway Ice Center cost $2 for 2003-04 Falcons season ticket holders and $5 for the general public. They go on sale at the door at 6 p.m. Tomorrow night Fresno will travel to Long Beach's practice facility, Glacial Gardens in Lakewood, CA, for a second pre-season game against the Dogs at 7 p.m.

Head coach and general manager Blaine Moore must submit the Falcons' opening day roster to the ECHL by Oct. 15 in advance of the team's season opener on Oct. 17 in Bakersfield against the Condors. The Falcons play their inaugural home opener in the Save Mart Center at Fresno State on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 5 p.m. also against the Condors following an 11-game road trip to open the 2003-04 campaign.

Season tickets to see the Falcons play at the Save Mart Center in 2003-04 are now on sale with mini-packs beginning as low as $48. Call the Falcons at 485-PUCK (7825) or visit www.fresnofalcons.com for more information.
