Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that they have reassigned forward Jim Campbell to the Philadelphia Phantoms. The Falcons also announced that forward Dan Cavanaugh has been reassigned to Springfield by Philadelphia. Cavanaugh is expected to join the Falcons on Wednesday as the team prepares for back-to-back home games this weekend.

Cavanaugh is a native of Springfield, MA and has played in 26 games for the Phantoms this season collecting two goals and six assists for eight points. Prior to joining Philadelphia this year, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound center spent four seasons with the Houston Aeros winning a Calder Cup Championship with Houston in 2003.

"Obviously, we are not pleased with our record over the past month and we are trying to help the team pull out of this losing streak," said Tampa Bay Lightning Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster. "We believe that the additions of Gerard Dicaire, Ray Schultz, Mike Egener, Adam Henrich and now Dan Cavanaugh will provide an infusion of talent and will help jump-start our team back into the win column."

Before joining the professional ranks, Cavanaugh spent three seasons with Boston University and collected 22 goals and 54 assists for 76 points in 111 games with the Terriers. Cavanaugh was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames with their second choice (38th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Campbell has played in 32 games for the Falcons this season collecting 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points. Campbell split last season between the Falcons and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers totaling 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points in 59 games played.

The Falcons return to action on Friday, January 20 when they host the Norfolk Admirals at the MassMutual Center starting at 7:35 PM. Springfield also hosts the Lowell Lock Monsters on Saturday, January 21 starting at 7:05 PM. All games can be heard live on the Falcons Hockey Network, WMAS AM 1450, as "The Voice" of the Falcons John Michael handles the play-by-play duties. All games can also be seen live through the B-2 Network for only $6.00.
