Phantoms Acquire Jim Campbell

PHILADELPHIA - It was announced today that the Philadelphia Phantoms have acquired veteran right wing Jim Campbell on loan from the Tampa Bay Lightning. In return, the Phantoms have loaned center Dan Cavanaugh to the Springfield Falcons, Tampa Bay's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.

Campbell, 32, brings 285 games of NHL experience to the Phantoms. The native of Worcester, MA is in his 13th year as a professional. In 32 games for Springfield this season, Campbell scored 11 goals and added 13 assists for 24 points: (32, 11/13/24). He has also skated one contest for Tampa Bay this season without registering a point.

A second round pick (28th overall) of the Montreal Canadiens in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, Campbell made his NHL debut with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the 1995-96 season. He spent the next three full seasons with the St. Louis Blues, earning a spot on the 1996-97 NHL All-Rookie Team with 23 goals that season. He returned to the AHL with the Blues affiliate in Worcester, where he was the team's leading scorer with 65 points (31/34/65) during the 1999-2000 season.

In the past five years, Campbell has made NHL appearances with Montreal, Chicago and Florida in addition to this season's game with Tampa Bay. He split the 2004-05 season with Bridgeport and Springfield before signing a free-agent contract with Tampa Bay last August.

Cavanaugh signed a free-agent contract with the Phantoms on October 18 after spending the previous four seasons with the Houston Aeros. In 26 games with Philadelphia this season, Cavanaugh registered two goals and six assists for a total of eight points (26, 2/6/8).

Philadelphia returns to the home ice this Friday, Jan. 20 when the Hershey Bears come to the Wachovia Spectrum for a 7:05 tilt.
