Express Fall to Storm Chasers 6-0 in Regular Season Finale
September 2, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) - Round Rock Express News Release
PAPILLION, Nebraska - The Round Rock Express (84-56) capped their regular season with a 6-0 loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers (59-80) on Monday afternoon at Werner Park. Omaha combined for three home runs off the Round Rock bullpen to fuel the victory.
Round Rock starter RHP Brendan McCurry (3-5, 4.23) suffered the loss in his first start of the season after surrendering two runs on three hits. McCurry fanned one in his 1.0-inning start. On the winning side, LHP Jonathan Dziedzic (3-3, 5.25) tossed two scoreless frames while surrendering only one hit to Round Rock.
The Storm Chasers jumped on the Express from the start as LF Rudy Martin hit a leadoff home run in the top of the first inging. Following the solo shot, CF Jecksson Flores singled and promptly stole second base before being waved home on an Erick Mejia double.
After a scoreless second inning, Omaha DH Jorge Bonifacio drew a walk and advanced to second on an error before dashing home on a Taylor Featherston single.
The longball burned the E-Train again in the fifth as the Storm Chasers drove in a trio of runs. After 1B Erich Weiss opened the frame with a single, Featherston notched a two-run shot on a fly ball into the left berm. Moments later, 2B Jimmy Govern mimicked the hit to extend the Storm Chasers lead to 6-0.
After an off day on Tuesday, playoff baseball returns to Dell Diamond for the first time since 2015. Round Rock is set to host the American Northern Division Champion Iowa Cubs (Chicago Cubs affiliate) in game one of the American Conference Championship Series on Wednesday night. The pivotal series opener is set to feature a pair of pitchers yet to be announced. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
