Explorers defeat Saints 12-2

St. Paul, MN.....The Explorers put a damper on St. Paul's playoff hopes as they defeated the Saints 12-2 Saturday at Midway Stadium. The X's had 16 hits, all but two were singles. Derek Schmerhorn had three hits including a double and two RBI's while Dustin Jones had the other extra base hit, a double and a RBI in the eighth inning. Besides Schmerhorn, Norm Hutchins had three hits and five RBI's and Jason Colson had three hits.
The Explorers jumped on St. Paul in the first inning with three runs, adding two more runs in the third and increased the lead to 9-0 with four runs in the sixth inning.
Starter Nick Singleton pitched six shutout innings and allowed only three hits in picking up his sixth win of the year. Ty Marotz and Kyle Frets combined to pitch the final three innings.
The Explorers will close out the season with a single game against St. Paul Sunday at 7:05 at Midway Stadium.
