
Wingnuts Hooper Named Manager Of The Year

DURHAM, NC - The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball announced today that Wichita Wingnuts manager Kevin Hooper has been selected as the Manager of the Year, as voted upon by the ten field managers and media.
In his first season as manager, Hooper, 32, led the Wingnuts to the North Division First Half Title. His pitching staff currently leads the league with a 3.51 ERA. The Wingnuts are also second in hitting with a .288 team batting average. Seven players represented Wichita at the American Association All-Star Game on July 21st in Grand Prairie, TX. Five Wingnuts were recently named to the Postseason All-Star Team.
Hooper had a 10-year playing career that included time in the Major Leagues, four in Triple-A and one as a member of the Wingnuts. He was originally drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 49th round in 1998. Hooper made his big league debut with the Detroit Tigers on July 9, 2005 versus the Tampa Bay Rays. In 2008, he led the American Association in hitting with a .373 batting average.
