St. Paul, MN...A sacrifice fly RBI by Steve Butler in the 14th inning have St. Paul a 6-5 win over the Explorers Friday at Midway Stadium.

It was the longest game of the season for the Explorers time-wise four hours and 45 minutes and also the most innings by the Explorers this season, 14.

Three walks in the 14th inning by losing pitcher Israel Chirino enabled Butler to bring home the winning run with the bases loaded.

The Explorers sent the game into extra innings in the ninth inning on a two-out single by Norm Hutchins scoring Alex Llanos from third base.

Sioux City took the lead 5-4 in the 11th inning by Hutchins that scored Greg Stevens from second base. Stevens had reached first on a fielders choice then stole second to set up the go-ahead run.

However, in the bottom of the 11th inning St. Paul tied the game at 5-5 on a solo home run by Jason Cooper.

Both teams had several opportunities to win the game earlier as the Explorers stranded 14 bases runner, leaving the bases loaded three times. St. Paul left 16 runners on base and also left the bases loaded three times.

Besides the 24 hits between the two teams, the Explorers gave up 13 walks while St. Paul pitches allowed eight walks.

The third game of the four-game series will be played Saturday starting at 7:05 at Midway Stadium.
