Florida Everblades News Release

N. CHARLESTON, SC - The Florida Everblades (30-25-4) earned a point in the standings, but saw the South Carolina Stingrays (32-21-4) come back from a 3-0 deficit to pick up a big 4-3 win in overtime on Trent Campbell's short-handed goal on Sunday afternoon at the North Charleston Coliseum.

A big first period saw the Everblades jump out to a 3-0 lead by the time the horn sounded to end the first 20 minutes of play. The first two goals for the Blades came on the power play with Alex Hutchings opening the scoring at the 5:07 mark. With David Fischer and Ross Carlson setting up the play on the left side, Hutchings took control of the puck at the bottom of the left circle before firing a pass across the top of the crease where it deflected into the net. The Everblades then opened a 2-0 lead at the 14:53 with their second power play marker of the night. The play began with Alex Imbeault working the puck from the top of the right circle to Francis Lemieux at the bottom of the circle. Lemieux then found Matt Beca in the slot with a quick pass that Beca one-timed past Stingrays goaltender Shane Owen for his 16th goal of the season.

Before the period came to a close the Everblades opened a three-goal lead when Bobby Raymond cashed in his sixth goal of the season with 1:21 remaining. The play developed with Hutchings absorbing a hit in the left corner as he fed the puck to Ian McDonald behind the net. With time and space McDonald found Raymond streaking into the zone down the middle and fed him a perfect pass that he slammed home for the 3-0 lead.

South Carolina battled back however in the second period to close within one. The Stingrays got on the board for the first time at the 10:34 mark with a power play goal by Matt Scherer. After Everblades goalie Adam Avramenko stopped a shot from Dustin Stevenson, the rebound dropped behind him where Scherer was able to slide it across the goal line.

The Stingrays kept the pressure coming as the period moved along and got themselves back to within a goal of the Everblades at the 15:52 mark when Josh Godfrey rushed the puck ahead through the neutral zone before letting a shot fly from the blue line that beat Avramenko on the glove side.

Midway through the third period the Stingrays completed the come-back effort by tying the game at three on Godfrey's second tally of the night at 10:10. Campbell set up the play with a nice pass from the left circle to Godfrey who was breaking in through the right circle where he one-timed the puck past Avramenko.

With the game moving into overtime it looked as though the Everblades would have the better opportunity to collect the game winner after Tommy Goebel was whistled for a penalty 27 seconds into the extra period. After an initial wave of pressure, the Stingrays cleared the puck out of the zone and on the ensuing rush up ice the Everblades lost the puck at the offensive blue line. Campbell raced onto the loose puck in the neutral zone and broke in alone on Avramenko before wristing the game-winner inside the left post.

In goal Avramenko picked up a tie to see his record go to 0-1-1 after allowing the four goals on 34 shots while Owen improved to 6-2-2 by stopping 24 of 27 shots.

The overtime loss for the Everblades was their first this season as they fell to 4-1 in games decided in overtime. South Carolina improved to 2-2 in games decided in overtime.
