Atlanta Gladiators News Release
READING, PA - Danick Paquette scored twice and added an assist, as the Gladiators won their third game in as many days, 6-4 over the Reading Royals at the Sovereign Center Sunday afternoon.
The Gladiators (25-25-7) moved into a three-way tie for seventh in the Eastern Conference with the win, while Reading (35-15-5) was handed just their seventh loss of the season at home.
The Royals drew first blood in the opening period, as defenseman Luke Donald on the penalty kill notched his third goal of the season at 8:13 for a 1-0 Reading lead.
Akim Aliu brought Gwinnett even 10:16 into the first, completing a fantastic set-up on the man advantage with Pat Galivan and Michael Forney.
Forney returned from AHL Chicago earlier in the day Sunday, and now has points in 20 of his last 23 games with the Glads.
Reading took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission, as a Yannick Riendeau shot deflected off defenseman Matt Duffy and past Eddy Pasquale at 14:30. Duffy would have his revenge later in the game.
The Gladiators answered in the second stanza, potting two quick tallies to take the lead. Danick Paquette's 11th from John-Scott Dickson tied the game at two at 5:18, and just 42 seconds later Will Colbert blasted a rebound past Matt Dalton from the mid-slot to give Gwinnett their first lead. Justin Milo and Aliu assisted on Colbert's sixth.
Gwinnett struck again to pad their lead at 12:29 on the powerplay. Paquette redirected a Sam Roberts shot from the point past Dalton with Andy Brandt also getting an assist to make it 4-2 Glads.
After a Jared Ross powerplay marker at 16:59, it took the Gladiators just 19 seconds to answer. Kyle Kucharski put home a rebound in front for his second goal of the season and second in as many days to push the Glads lead to 5-3 after 40 minutes.
Matt Duffy extended the lead to three goals at 6:37 of the third, beating Dalton with a slapshot from the point. Paquette and Dickson picked up the assists. Reading scored at 14:10 to cut the deficit to two on a Rob Kwiet tally, but that was as close as the Royals would get.
Eddy Pasquale stopped 26 of 30 shots for Gwinnett, as the Glads went 2-for-6 on the powerplay ad held Reading to 1-for-5.
The Gladiators hit the road again on Tuesday night for a 7:05 p.m. mtahcup with division Rival South Carolina.
