Florida Everblades News Release

LONG BEACH, CA – The Florida Everblades (4-3-0) picked up a 3-2 victory over to the Long Beach Ice Dogs (3-2-0) on Friday night at the Long Beach Arena. Rookie Matt Hendricks collected a pair of goals and goaltender Rob Zepp turned away 20 shots to help the Everblades snap their two-game losing streak.

Hendricks started things off for the Everblades by tallying a power play goal at 12:52 of the opening period, when he flipped a bouncing puck from the slot past Ice Dogs goaltender Chris Madden. Overall, the first period saw the Everblades dominate the Ice Dogs out shooting them 15-4.

The second period began in wild fashion with both teams picking up goals in the first three minutes. Long Beach tied the game at two with an even strength goal just 1:05 into the frame when Chris Kenady rifled a shot past Zepp to tie the game at one. Ernie Hartlieb answered quickly back for Florida perfectly placing a shot into the upper left corner of the net at 2:57 to give the Everblades back their lead. However, the Ice Dogs re-tied the game late in the period when Trevor Read collected a power play goal with just 1:31 remaining in the period.

Florida re-gained their one-goal lead with a fluke goal by Hendricks that rolled up Madden's arm and into the back of the net at 6:47 of the third period, and held on in the late stages against a furious attack by Long Beach to collect the win.

Zepp earned the win for the Everblades, stopping 20 of 22 Ice Dogs shots to raise his record to 3-1-0. Madden suffered his first loss of the season allowing three goals on 43 Florida shots. The Everblades finished the night 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Ice Dogs scored on one of their five power play chances.

Florida continues their six-game west coast swing on Saturday, November 6 when the team plays the second of back-to-back games at Long Beach at 10:05 p.m. EST.
