Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria, Ill. (November 6, 2004) - In just his second game on reassignment from the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate - the Worcester IceCats, Colin Hemingway registered a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Peoria Rivermen to a 6-3 win over the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies in front of 4,583 on Saturday night at Carver Arena.

Hemingway, who had 44 points (20g, 24a) in 36 games on reassignment with the Rivermen last season, pushed Peoria's lead to 5-3 just less than two minutes after left wing Brian McCullough scored the eventual game winner at 7:14 of the middle session. McCullough fed Hemingway at the top of the right face-off circle for a one-time shot through the legs of Atlantic City goaltender Jake Moreland at 9:12.

McCullough (1gwg, 1a), rookie center Troy Riddle (1g, 1a), left wing Igor Valeev (2a) and left wing Randy Rowe (1g, 1a) all had two points in the game.

Rowe potted his first of the season, an empty-net goal, at 19:23 of the final period to finish the scoring.

Peoria (2-1-2, 6 points) improved to 2-1-1 on home ice and 1-1-0 against the Boardwalk Bullies after last night's 5-2 loss to them. It was just the second time all season the Rivermen had a lead in a game. Atlantic City (3-3-1, 7 points) fell to back to .500 overall and on the road this season.

Rivermen rookie goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu (1-0-1) turned away 33 of 36 chances in his first professional victory. Moreland (1-1-0) stopped 36 of 41 shots in the loss.

Atlantic City took a 1-0 lead on the power play, just as they did last night, 6:22 into the game. Brian Fahey stickhandled down the left side of the zone, sidestepping two Rivermen defenders before cutting out in front of the Peoria goal and slipping his first of the season low and inside the right goal post.

The Rivermen knotted the game at 1-1 at 12:53 of the opening period. Riddle grabbed a loose puck in front of the Peoria goal on a delayed penalty call and slid it underneath Moreland as he was being checked to the ice for his first professional goal.

Peoria made it 2-1 just 28 seconds later on Hemingway's first of two in the second session. Hemingway took a shot from the left side of the goal, deflecting the puck off the leg of an Atlantic City defenseman and past Moreland.

Hemingway gave Peoria a 3-1 advantage on the power play at 16:08 on his second tally of the game. Second-year defenseman Trevor Johnson fired a wrist shot from the high slot that Hemingway tipped down and past Moreland from the low slot.

Atlantic City got within one before the end of the opening period. Dan Peters floated a shot through a maze of players from the left point that made its way past a screened Beckford-Tseu. It was Peters' first goal of the season.

The Boardwalk Bullies tied the game 3-3 just 1:20 into the second period on a defensive breakdown by the Rivermen. Left wing Paul Caponigri snatched a loose puck in the high slot and fired home his first goal of the season and the second of his professional career.

The Rivermen, though, went back to work on offense at the 7:14 mark of the second, making it 4-3. McCullough broke down the right side of the Atlantic City zone on a pass from Hemingway, fired an initial shot from the face-off circle, followed up his own rebound and chipped his own rebound up over Moreland from in close for his second tally of the year.

On Friday, November 12, the Rivermen travel to Johnstown, Pa. to battle the rival Chiefs in the first of two in a row between clubs. Game time is 6:00 p.m. CT at the Cambria County War Memorial.
