Aces win 4-1 in Fresno

Alaska Aces News Release

FRESNO, Calif. – Charles Linglet scored the game-winning goal and assisted on two others in the final 12:33 as Alaska broke open a close game and won going away, 4-1, in front of 3,405 Friday night at Fresno's Save-Mart Center.

For the third straight game, the Alaska power play, once mired in a 1-for-32 slump, converted, as Cal Benazic's shot from the point squeezed through screened Fresno goaltender Brett Jaeger at 3:08 of the first period. Alaska starter Lance Mayes kept the game that way with a key breakaway denial of Shawn Heaphy in the second period, and the Aces held a 1-0 edge heading into the final 20 minutes despite being outshot 12-7 in the middle frame.

J.J. Wroblewski finally put the Falcons on the board with a wrist shot that beat a screened Mayes 1:19 into the third, but Fresno would manage just three more shots on goal for the remainder of the contest. Chris Minard sprung Charles Linglet loose on a breakaway that was made possible only because of Linglet's speed, as he split two Falcon defensemen and left Jaeger helpless with a deke, putting Alaska back on top, 2-1, at the 7:27 mark. Linglet set up Keith McCambridge's drive from the point with 3:24 left that pushed the lead to 3-1, and then two minutes later, found a streaking Minard, who snapped a wrister by Jaeger to account for the final margin.

The Aces outshot the Falcons 29-24 in claiming their first road victory of the season and improving to 3-4-1 overall. Alaska's 14-day road trip continues with a rematch against Fresno (1-5-1) tomorrow night at 6:05 p.m. ADT, a game that will be broadcast live on AM 750 KFQD and at www.alaskaaces.com. Coverage begins 20 minutes before the puck drops at the Save-Mart Center.
