Falcons Lose, 4-1

Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons and Alaska Aces were embroiled in a tight, 1-1 hockey game until the Aces exploded for three goals in the final 12:30 of the third period to defeat Fresno, 4-1, at Save Mart Center.

Alaska stuck early in the game while skating on the power play. Cal Benazic's wrist shot from the point bounced off Fresno defenseman Charles Simard and past goaltender Brett Jaeger to give the Aces a 1-0 lead 3:08 into the contest.

The Falcons would trail by that 1-0 margin for nearly the next 40 minutes until early in the third. John Wroblewski tore up his off-wing and, using an Aces defenseman as a screen, beat goaltender Lance Mayes with a wrist shot top shelf at 1:19 to tie the game at one.

Alaska's All-Star forward Charles Linglet then took control and seemingly broke the game open single-handedly. He scored on a breakaway at 7:27 of the final period before setting up Keith McCambridge at 16:26 and Chris Minard at 18:55 for the final 4-1 margin.

National Hockey League stand-out Scott Gomez was limited to one assist, which came on the Aces' power play goal in the first.

Fresno falls to 1-5-1 on the year, as they play the sixth game of an eight-game homestand against Alaska tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Save Mart Center. The first 2,000 fans will receive a Falcons mouse pad courtesy of Yellow Book.

Tickets are now on sale for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at Save Mart Center's box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497) or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
