Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA – Corey Neilson's power play goal 54 seconds into overtime lifted the Pensacola Ice Pilots to a 3-2 overtime win, spoiling the night for a sell out crowd in the Cajundome.

It was a wild finish to a relatively calm game. Louisiana scored first when Brian Perez capitalized on a Pensacola turn over, depositing a pass from Pascal Pelletier behind Frederic Cloutier for a 1-0 lead 8:53 into the first period. It was the second lamp lighter of the year for Perez. Dominic D'Amor's wrist shot from the blue line beat a screened Kyle Kettles at 11:51 of the first period to tie the game at one.

After a scoreless 2nd period, things got wild in the third. At 10:39 of the period, Jordan Krestanovich beat Kettles with a back hander from the right face off circle and gave Pensacola a 2-1 lead. At 15:42 of the period a brawl broke out between Shawn Skiehar and Doug MacIver of the Gators squaring off against Bill Kinkel and Jason Beckett of the Pilots. All four wound up ejected setting the tone for the finish. With 1:58 to play and the Gators on the power play, Jake Ortmeyer lifted a long wrister past Cloutier to tie the game at two and sending the crowd into a frenzy. It was Ortmeyer's 1st goal as a Gator. But with 33 seconds remaining in regulation, Chris Thompson was called for goalie interference and with the power play becoming a 4 on3 with the start of overtime, it allowed Corey Neilson to fire a low slap shot past Kettles for the game winner.
