Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Boise, Idaho - A 12 day break didn't hurt the Victoria Salmon Kings at all. Not quite âfresh' off their first ever franchise win over the Fresno Falcons the ECHL's current road warriors rolled into the home of the Kelly Cup Champion Idaho Steelheads and handed the Steelheads just their second loss of the season, a 4-1 defeat, in front of a partisan home crowd of over 4,000. The win moves the Salmon Kings record to 2 wins and 2 losses on the season. The Idaho Steelheads record is now 5 wins and 2 losses.
Making his first start of the season after 14 days on the disabled list Lethbridge, Alberta native Ryan Finnerty potted his first and second goal of the season, including the game winner at 9:43 of the third period off an assist from Ryan Wade.
Also collecting his first two goals of the season was Vancouver Island's own Rob Voltera who scored the Salmon Kings third goal at 17:35 of the third period then sealed the game with an empty-net marker just :21 seconds later. Defenceman Corey Smith and right winger Blue Bennefield each had two assists.
Victoria-born David Brumby continued his strong play in goal making his fourth consecutive start and stopping 24 of 25 shots to even his personal record on the season at two wins and two losses.
The Salmon Kings will try to extend their winning streak to three games when they meet the Steelhead here again in Boise tomorrow night.
The Salmon Kings return from Boise for four days of rest before heading back out on the road for games in Long Beach, CA, Las Vegas, NV and Fresno CA November 10th through 12th.
