Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Everblades rebounded from their Wednesday night loss to the Devils with a 5-4 victory on Friday night in Germain Arena. 5,509 witnessed a wild, sea-saw affair that saw the Everblades take a two-goal lead three times before finally skating away with a one-goal decision. Milan Gajic (2g, 1a) and Phil Paquet (1g, 1a) were the heroes for Florida, while Chris Beckford-Tseu stopped 38 shots in net to record the win for the âBlades.
The first period saw fireworks from both clubs. The two teams combined for 36 shots (Trenton-20, Florida-16) and four goals, three of which came on the power play. The Everblades got the better of the Devils with two goals from Milan Gajic (3, 4), one on the power play and the other even strength. Shea Guthrie accounted for the other Everblade tally in the first stanza. Leading Devil goal scorer Justin Prough accounted for the only Trenton goal on the power play in the first stanza. The Everblades finished the period with a 3-1 advantage and two of two on the power play. Trenton finished the period one of two on the extra man.
Trenton sliced the Everblade lead in half just a minute and a half into the second period. Brett Wilson deflected a puck past Chris Beckford-Tseu to make it a 3-2 game. Matt Vokes and Ryan Ginand were credited with assists on the tally. In the second period, Florida and Trenton combined for just 12 shots and both teams finishing 0 for 2 on the power play.
Florida extended their lead to 4-2 on Phil Paquet's first goal of the season. Paquet wristed a shot from the right point that bounced off a couple of sticks and past Gerald Coleman. Mike Bayrack and Milan Gajic picked up assists on the Paquet goal. 2:19 later Trenton struck again to cut the Everblade lead to one. Trevor Kell deposited a pass from Jack Combs and Dan Charleston into the back of the âBlades net. With under a minute and a half to play Trenton pulled goaltender Coleman for the extra skater. The Devils turned over the puck at neutral ice and Ernie Hartlieb popped the puck into the empty net to make the score 5-3 Florida. The Devils finished the scoring with just 14-seconds remaining on a Justin Pender coast-to-coast goal.
