Eugene Emeralds Toss Fifth No-Hitter in Team History

Eugene Emeralds News Release
EUGENE, Ore. - Wearing Civic Stadium tribute uniforms on Sunday at PK Park, the Eugene Emeralds did something they never did at their old home - toss a no-hitter.
The Emeralds saw four pitchers - Preston Morrison, Kyle Twomey, Luis Hernandez and Trey Masek - combine for their first no-hitter since 1968, when the team played at Bethel Park. Eugene moved into Civic Stadium the following year.
Morrison, in his first season out of TCU, was perfect in his three inning start with four strikeouts before giving way to Twomey (1-0), who earned the win. Twomey issued a walk in the fourth but that was the only Everett baserunner to reach in three innings against the rookie from USC.
Luis Hernandez entered for the Emeralds in the seventh, retiring the side. Everett had its best opportunity to score in the eighth, as Hernandez issued two walks. But, with runners at first and third, a sharp liner to third was snagged by Blake Headley to end the inning. Masek, a fifth-round pick by the Cubs in 2013 out of Texas Tech, picked up the save, tossing a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Overall, the four pitchers struck out 12 batters, issued three walks and the Eugene defense made one error. They needed just 116 pitches to post the no-hitter, with Masek picking up the save after an eight-pitch ninth inning.
The Emeralds took an early lead when Kevonte Mitchell singled with two outs, stole second and scored on a double by Donnie Dewees. Mitchell drove in a run in the fifth with a two-out double to score Tyler Alamo, who started the frame with a single. The Ems scored an insurance run in the eighth when Ian Rice singled in Eloy Jimenez.
Last No-Hitter: The last no-hitter for the Emeralds was in 1968. Robert Snyder and the Emeralds defeated Medford, 3-0, on June 23, 1968.
Other Notes: The Emeralds wore special Civic Stadium tribute uniforms in honor of their long-time home park, which burned to the ground earlier this year. The Emeralds never recorded a no-hitter in their time at Civic Stadium. Eugene moved to the University of Oregon's newly-built PK Park for the 2010 season. Civic Stadium was used for high school football and baseball before the Emeralds moved in for the 1969 season.
Up Next: The Emeralds hit the road for six games before closing out the 2015 home schedule next week with an eight-game homestand, starting Aug. 23 against Spokane. The Ems will wear special plaid uniforms with skinny jean pants for Portlandia Night on August 28. It will also be Tallboy Thursday, with $3 PBR tallboys.
