Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Ron Tonkin Field - Hillsboro, OR) - Canadians 1B Justin Atkinson snapped a 6-6 tie in the top of the 9th inning with a hard hit single that scored RF Conor Panas to help Vancouver to a victory in the finale of a five-game series in Hillsboro.

The C's got three home runs on Sunday afternoon with C Ryan Hissey, SS JC Cardenas and 3B Carl Wise - all two run shots - to keep pace with the Hops who managed a five-run inning in the bottom of the 5th to grab their only lead of the ballgame.

Canadians starter RHP Ryan Cook was solid over his 4 1/3 innings of work allowing just four hits while striking out seven in his second appearance of the season for Vancouver. LHP Bob Wheatley struggled on Sunday, allowing four earned runs over his 2/3 innings, but the combination of LHP Stuart Holmes (3.0IP) and LHP Brandon Hinkle (1.0IP) didn't allow a hit over the game's final four innings to secure the victory with Hinkle grabbing his first save in a Canadians uniform.

With the victory, Vancouver improves to 8-10 on the second half, and move to within two games of top spot in the North Division with 20 games remaining in the regular season.

Notes: Vancouver finishes 5-5 (.500) against Hillsboro in ten head-to-head meetings... The Canadians head home to face Tri-City starting Monday, August 17th at 7:05pm as the C's welcome former Cy Young Award recipient Pat Hentgen to Scotiabank Field presented by Blakes and The BC Sports Hall of Fame.
