Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release

Salem-Keizer dropped its five-game series to Spokane after losing game five by a final score of 4-3 on Sunday afternoon. The Volcanoes dropped all three of their chances to claim the series, losing a five-game series after winning the first two games for just the third time in team history.

Spokane starter Peter Fairbanks (1-2, 3.40 ERA) earned his first win of the season. Salem-Keizer's Drew Leenhouts (6-3, 2.47 ERA) was handed the tough-luck loss.

Errors decided the game for a second straight night at Avista Stadium, as the Volcanoes let three runners cross the plate due to errors just one night after allowing four unearned runs.

In the second inning, a C.J. Hinojosa error allowed Jamie Potts to reach first safely. Two batters later, Indians designated hitter Connor McKay hit a triple off the wall in center field that scored Potts.

The only earned run that Leenhouts allowed all afternoon came off of a Potts home run in the fourth inning. Salem-Keizer's starter went a season-high eight innings while striking out three and not allowing a walk.

The Volcanoes offense was quiet on the night, recording only five hits. Fernando Pujadas had two of those hits including a two-out RBI single in the sixth. Miguel Gomez picked up his 43rd RBI Sunday as he continues to set the pace for the Northwest League.

The Volcanoes return to Keizer for a Monday night matchup as they begin a six-game home stand, the first three coming against Hillsboro. Nolan Riggs (3-1, 2.28 ERA) will start against the Hops' Opening Day starter Tyler Bolton (1-2, 3.66 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Bolton faced the Volcanoes on June 23 in a game that the Hops won 5-4.
