Hillsboro, OR - In a game that spanned more than five hours, Gerard Hernandez singled home Trevor Mitsui in the bottom of the 14th inning to give Hillsboro a 10-9 victory over Vancouver on Saturday night. The game was the longest of the summer and saw the Canadians erase an eight-run deficit only to lose in extra innings.
Vancouver pitching ran into trouble early as both Evan Smith and Dan Young struggled allowing eight runs between them over the first four innings of Saturday night's game. The Canadians would get back within reach in the top of the 6th inning sending 11 hitters to the plate producing six runs before a two-run top of the 7th inning tied the game at 8-8.
In the top of the 8th inning, Vancouver grabbed its first lead of the night when Justin Atkinson hit into a groundout, scoring Andrew Guillotte.
Up 9-8 in the bottom of the 9th, Canadians closer Andrew Case would blow his save attempt after giving up a leadoff double to Luis Veras. The Hops would send the game to extra innings when Joey Armstrong hit a sacrifice fly to center as Andrew Guillotte throw to the plate with two outs was in time to get Veras, but Canadians catcher Kevin Garcia dropped the ball while applying the tag.
In the bottom of the 14th inning, Canadians reliever Michael Kraft would hit Trevor Mutsui with one out and eventually score on a bloop single back up the middle from Gerard Hernandez to give Hillsboro it's 4th extra inning victory of the season, and get them off the hook after blowing an eight-run lead.
With the loss, Vancouver falls to 7-10 on the second half and 23-32 overall while the Hops improve to 11-6 and 33-22 on the full season.
