(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos have signed import wide receiver Ed Gant.

In 2009, Gant was signed as an undrafted free agent to the Arizona Cardinals practice roster until 2010. He most recently spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he saw pre-season action, recording 121 receiving yards and a touchdown.

"Ed is a very gifted athlete," says Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman. "His size is a plus and he provides a speed dimension that will allow us to attack defenses vertically. There's always an adjustment period when American athletes first come to the CFL, but we are certainly enthused about Ed's potential and we will try to accelerate his adaption to the unique aspects of our Canadian game."

The Florida native played two seasons at Southwest Mississippi Community College before transferring to the University of North Alabama in 2007. During his two seasons with the UNA Lions, Gant accumulated 45 receptions for 865 yards (19.2 per reception) and 14 touchdowns. He also recorded 158 rushing yards in 22 carries, returned 19 kickoffs for 402 yards and was a First Team All Gulf South performer. Gant set a school single season record with 10 touchdown receptions in 2008 and recorded two of the longest touchdown receptions in school history with a 90-yard TD against Harding and 83-yard TD vs. Southern Arkansas.
