Calgary Stampeders News Release
Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish has added yet another Canadian Football League award to his collection as he has been named the CFL's Canadian player of the month for September.
Cornish, the league's leading rusher with 1,127 yards, was also named top Canadian in August and has been named Canadian player of the week no fewer than six times in 2012. Add a player-of-the-week honour in Week 7 and Cornish has been honoured by CFL voters on nine occasions this season, more than any other player.
Including an award in September of 2011, Cornish has claimed the top Canadian honour in three of the past five months.
In five September contests, Cornish ran the ball 76 times for 556 yards for an average of 7.3 yards per carry and 111.2 yards per game. The month was highlighted by the top two rushing performances this season in the CFL - a 185-yard game against Edmonton on Sept. 7 and a 180-yard effort, again against the Eskimos, on Sept. 28. He added eight catches for 32 yards in September and scored a total of six touchdowns - five on the ground and one through the air.
Cornish last week became the eighth Canadian in CFL history to surpass the 1,000-yard mark in a single season and he leads the CFL rushing race by 205 yards.
