Edmonton Elks News Release

Middle linebacker JC Sherritt will not play in Friday's game, Head Coach Kavis Reed announced today. Rookie linebacker Simoni Lawrence will get the start when the Eskimos host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Sherritt, who was named the CFL's Defensive Player of the Month earlier today, sat out practice this week due to an injury sustained in last week's game vs. the Calgary Stampeders. The Eastern Washington product leads the league with 104 tackles and is on pace to set a new CFL single-season tackling record of 152, breaking the current record of 129 set by Calvin Tiggle in 1994.

Lawrence played in 10 games this season and has eight defensive tackles, eight special teams tackles and a fumble recovery. He spent the first two games the 1-game injured list and game 8 on the reserve list. The 6'1 228-pound Lawrence played at the University of Minnesota where he recorded 149 tackles his last two seasons. He later signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles, and, after being released, spent time with the Bears and Eagles on each team's practice roster.

Kickoff is 7p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium. Get tickets online or call Ticketmaster at 1-855-375-4667.
