Erie Takes Homestand Finale with Late Rally

Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve dropped the finale of a three-game series to the Erie SeaWolves, 3-1, after Erie used a three-run rally in the seventh to go ahead for good on Wednesday at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Curve (12-13) starter James Marvel (Loss, 3-2) held the SeaWolves (11-11) scoreless through the first six frames, but quickly ran into trouble in the seventh when he hit Chad Sedio with a pitch to start the inning. Jose Azocar followed with a fly ball to right field that hit off Bligh Madris as he attempted to make an over-the-shoulder catch; it was scored a double and set up a second-and-third situation for Cam Gibson, who roped a go-ahead, two-run double to right. Kade Scivicque's RBI single to left added an insurance run to put the SeaWolves ahead, 3-1.

Jake Brentz relieved Marvel and stranded two runners with a strikeout for the final out of the seventh. Brentz worked the rest of the game with 2.1 scoreless innings on the day in his longest appearance of the season.

Marvel worked through 6.2 innings allowing three runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and one walk. With six shutout innings to start his day, he extended his scoreless streak to 20.2 innings before it ended there with no outs in the seventh. Marvel started his shutout run on April 15 and carried it through two straight scoreless outings of seven innings each prior to Wednesday's outing.

Erie starter Alex Faedo (Win, 2-1) was taken off the hook after the SeaWolves' three-run seventh and finished his day after six innings, allowing one run on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

The Curve scored their only run of the day in the fourth inning. Bralin Jackson laced a leadoff double to left-center gap and Madris followed with a single to center. The next batter, Logan Hill, bounced into a 5-4-3 double play that brought home Jackson to give the Curve a 1-0 lead, but killed a potential rally.

Jackson picked up his second straight multi-hit game with a 2-for-4 effort and Hunter Owen, who also went 2-for-4, raised his batting average to .322 through 25 games.

The Curve wrapped up their six-game homestand with a 3-3 record. The team heads to Richmond for a four-game series with the Flying Squirrels starting Thursday at 6:35 p.m. Curve right-hander Pedro Vazquez (1-0, 2.86) gets the ball opposite Richmond right-hander Brandon Lawson (0-0, 4.91).

The Curve return home on Monday, May 6 to start a six-game homestand with a three-game series against the Bowie Baysox.
