ENTERING TODAY'S ACTION... Today, the SeaWolves look for a sweep as they take the field in the final game of a three-game series against the Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates) at Blair County Ballpark. The ‘Wolves clobbered the Curve last night, 15-1. It was the most runs scored in a game this season for the SeaWolves. The club also belted out a season-best 15 hits and held on for their largest margin of victory (14 runs) this season. Erie has now taken eight of the first 10 meetings against the Curve this season. If the ‘Wolves can win today, it will be their third series sweep of the season and second sweep of Altoona. Yesterday's win improved the Howlers to 3-3-1 in series this season. In 10 games, the SeaWolves have outscored the Curve 57-32...Righty Jonah Nickerson takes the mound today for the SeaWolves. He makes his fifth start of the season and third against the Curve and is in search of his first win of the season. Both Nickerson and tomorrow's starter Jon Kibler have yet to register a win in the ‘09 campaign. He took a no-decision in his last outing against Bowie on April 27. After tossing four scoreless innings to start the game, Nickerson gave up five runs in the fifth. He finished the game going 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with a season-high four walks and no strikeouts. He is 0-1 with a no-decision in two starts against the Curve...Righty Brad Lincoln takes the mound for Altoona, making his fifth start of the season and third against Erie. He took a loss in his last start at Reading going five innings, allowing three runs on six hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Lincoln is 0-1 with a no-decision in his previous two starts against the SeaWolves. TODAY'S NOTABLES - - Erie leads the season series over Altoona 8-2. The ‘Wolves and Curve meet 25 times in 2009. The only opponent Erie will see more than Altoona is Akron (27 games). - Erie's pitching staff ranks sixth in the league with a 3.63 team ERA. Altoona's pitching staff ranks eighth in the league with a 4.11 team ERA. - Erie's offense ranks fourth in the EL with a .261 team batting average. Altoona is 11th in the league with a .241 team batting average. - The SeaWolves are third in the league with 19 home runs and second with 114 runs scored. - Scott Sizemore has hit safely in 17 of 21 games this season while Max Leon has hit safely in 15 of 17 games. - Leon is third in the league with a .365 batting average; is tied for the league lead with 20 RBI; is tied for third with 12 extra-base hits and leads with a .730 slugging percentage. - Ryan Strieby leads the league with 19 runs scored and is third with five home runs. - Defensively the SeaWolves are tied for second in the league with a .984 team fielding percentage. Erie has committed 13 errors this season which is third in the league. The ‘Wolves have turned 28 double plays which ranks second in the EL. - Leon is tied for the league lead with three triples.
