Guzman joins the Sens

The Harrisburg Senators in conjunction with the Washington Nationals have announced that INF Joel Guzman has joined the Senators from AAA Syracuse and INF Jemel Spearman has been placed on the disabled list with a calf strain.

Guzman was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Dodgers in 2002. He was a top prospect in the Dodgers organization according to Baseball America ranking as high as third in 2002. After moving to the Tampa Bay organization, he was their tenth ranked prospect entering 2007. He has played in 24 major league games with the Dodgers and Tampa Bay.

In 2004, Guzman played in the Futures Game as the starting SS for the World Team. He was named to the Florida State League mid-season and post-season All-Star teams. Named by Baseball America as top prospect in the Florida State League.

He started this season with Syracuse batting .121 with 2 RBI.

Spearman started the season in extended spring training and joined the Senators on April 15 when Seth Bynum was promoted to AAA Syracuse. He is batting .125 in 10 games with the Sens.
