LAST NIGHT: The Curve experienced their worst loss of the 2009 season 15-1 at the hands of the Erie SeaWovles.
TODAY'S GAME AT A GLANCE: The Altoona Curve and Erie SeaWolves (AA - Detroit) will lock horns for the 11th time this season already...with the unbalanced schedule in the Eastern League, Altoona will play the 'Wolves 13 more times after tonight's contest.
TODAY'S STARTING PITCHERS: Right hander Brad Lincoln takes the mound today for the Curve. Lincoln is still looking for his first win in the 2009 campaign despite strong efforts throughout the season. This will be Lincoln's fifth start of the year and the third against the SeaWolves. In his last start against Erie on 4/16 Lincoln threw 5.0 innings allowing only one run on five hits with six strikeouts. Last time out (4/28) at Reading pitched five innings giving up three runs in a losing effort.
Erie will send right-hander Jonah Nickerson makes his fifth start of the season. Erie's Opening Day Starter on Wednesday, April 8 against Altoona and did not factor in the decision...Last time out (4/27) Nickerson took the no decision vs Bowie after allowing five runs in 4.1 innings.
BRAD OF ALL TRADES: OF Brad Corley tied his season long hitting streak last night after a 2x4 effort including his second home run of the season. Corley would also show his diversity coming out of the bullpen in the ninth inning and not allowing a hit. Corley was the only Curve pitcher not to allow a run in the 15-1 loss.
BULL OF A PEN: Over the past 16 games Altoona's bullpen has been called to duty often. They have come through, tossing 74.1 innings over that span, allowing just 17 earned runs (2.06 ERA)...RHP Lincoln Holdzkom has also not allowed an earned run all season (13.2)..RHP Jean Machi has only allowed three earned runs in 12.2 innings pitched this season (2.213 ERA).
WHO SHOT THE SHERRIF: LHP Shawn Nottingham has appeared in nine games for the Altoona Curve and has performed well (0-1, 2.61). However, the team is 0-9 in games in which he appears.
CHAPTER ONE: The Altoona Curve have given up 25 first inning runs so far this season. Recently the team has permitted 10 first inning runs to cross the plate in the last four games they've played.
