Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI - A night after posting a season-low for goals scored, the Kalamazoo Wings (14-16-2-1) exploded for a season-high seven goals, including a season-high five-point night (2 goals, 3 assists) from Eric Kattelus in a 7-3 rout of the Evansville IceMen (12-20-0-3)

Scoring on a rebound, Wade MacLeod (5th) extended his point streak to five games and gave the IceMen a 1-0 advantage 8:20 into the contest.

Needing only 44 seconds to respond, Kattelus (12th) notched the equalizer with a wrister from the left circle.

Capping off a stretch of three goals in less than three minutes, MacLeod recorded his second of the game with a power-play strike. MacLeod, who started the season in the AHL with the Springfield Falcons, has earned six goals in four games with the IceMen.

Pulling even before the intermission, Kattelus sent a perfect centering pass to Aaron Clarke, who redirected his team-leading 13th goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2 with just 51 seconds remaining in the period.

Special teams play dominated the second period for the K-Wings, as Kalamazoo struck for a season-high three power-play goals in the stanza.

Finding free space in the high-slot, Mitch Versteeg (4th) captured the lead for good for the K-Wings blasting home his third goal of the season 1:46 into the period.

Alexandre Mallet (4th) extended the K-Wings lead to 4-2 less than two minutes later with a power-play wrister from the bottom of the left circle.

Being in the right place at the right time, Tyler Shelast (2nd) earned the third man-advantage tally for the K-Wings, knocking in a Clarke slap shot that hit the elbow of the post and went right to the tape of the former IceMen.

Using an aggressive penalty-kill, Kalamazoo tied their most goals in a season by notching their second shorthanded tally of the season, with a slap shot from Nick Sirota (8th).

Storming out in the third period, Kalamazoo garnered their largest lead of the night with Kattelus' second of the game and team-tying 13th of the season 22 seconds into the period with a backhander from the slot. The goal was Kalamazoo's season-high fourth power-play goal of the night

Evansville's Sebastian Wannstrom (3rd) closed out the scoring with a wrister from the corner, as Kalamazoo would go on to the four-goal victory.
